About the work
The Kisokaidō, the inland road between Edo (present-day Tokyo) and Kyoto, had 69 post stations, and prints like this offered city collectors its scenic spots without the inconveniences of travel. Moonlight silhouettes travellers leaving Nagakubo station while a figure with a walking stick crosses the Wada Bridge; in the foreground a man leading his weary horse gazes at the moon as children play with dogs. Published in 1835 or 1836.
Printed on 200 gsm museum-quality matte paper from the museum’s high-resolution open-access image, with a white border so nothing of the original is cropped. Available from A4 up to 70 × 100 cm, or as a digital download to print yourself.
