About the work
The small town of Saint-Mammès, about forty miles south of Paris, lies where the Seine and Loing rivers are joined by a canal, and Alfred Sisley often painted there in the 1880s. He rendered this 1885 view with classic Impressionist technique: pure colour and soft, flickering brushwork that dissolves forms into a haze of brilliant outdoor light.
Printed on 200 gsm museum-quality matte paper from the museum’s high-resolution open-access image, with a white border so nothing of the original is cropped. Available from A4 up to 70 × 100 cm, or as a digital download to print yourself.
