About the work
After moving to the Mediterranean village of Saint-Clair in 1891 for his health, Henri-Edmond Cross wrote to his mother: “I have enough here to keep me busy all of life. I have just discovered happiness.” There he adopted the Neo-Impressionist technique of laying paint in small dots or dashes of complementary colours that mix in the viewer’s eye. Here a spectacular cloud glows in the sunset, joined to the garden below by a pair of cypress trees. Painted around 1896.
Printed on 200 gsm museum-quality matte paper from the museum’s high-resolution open-access image, with a white border so nothing of the original is cropped. Available from A4 up to 70 × 100 cm, or as a digital download to print yourself.
