About the work
From One Hundred Views of Famous Places in Edo (1857). The arched stone bridge over the Meguro River was called the Drum Bridge for its resemblance to the rounded profile of a drum; here people shield themselves from the snow with hats and umbrellas as they cross. At lower right is the roof of Shōgatsu-ya, a shop that served shiruko mochi, a sweet red-bean soup with rice cakes. Sunset Hill, beyond the bridge, was once known for its red maple leaves in autumn.
Printed on 200 gsm museum-quality matte paper from the museum’s high-resolution open-access image, with a white border so nothing of the original is cropped. Available from A4 up to 70 × 100 cm, or as a digital download to print yourself.
