About the work
From Utagawa Kuniyoshi’s series Famous Places in the Eastern Capital (early 1830s); the calligraphy in the red circle at upper right is the series title. The Ōmori district on Edo Bay was known for growing nori, the seaweed wrapped around rice balls and sushi rolls. Kuniyoshi shows two women gathering seaweed from the cultivation beds, one using chopsticks, the other gently raking it into baskets in their boat.
Printed on 200 gsm museum-quality matte paper from the museum’s high-resolution open-access image, with a white border so nothing of the original is cropped. Available from A4 up to 70 × 100 cm, or as a digital download to print yourself.
