About the work
Another sheet from a tulip book by Pieter Holsteyn II, made around 1645 for growers during Holland’s tulip mania, when the striations caused by a virus in the bulb made a flower especially prized. The inscribed name translates as ‘Admiral Winckel’; Winckel was the family name of one of the largest tulip growers of the period.
Printed on 200 gsm museum-quality matte paper from the museum’s high-resolution open-access image, with a white border so nothing of the original is cropped. Available from A4 up to 70 × 100 cm, or as a digital download to print yourself.
