About the work
Toulouse-Lautrec made this 1899 lithograph in colour and in black and white for a portfolio of horse-racing subjects that never appeared. Set at the Longchamp racecourse in Paris, it shows his admiration for Degas and for Japanese woodcuts in its flat colour, daring cropping, pale green grass and rushing perspective, while horse and rider are drawn in the physically impossible ‘flying gallop’.
Printed on 200 gsm museum-quality matte paper from the museum’s high-resolution open-access image, with a white border so nothing of the original is cropped. Available from A4 up to 70 × 100 cm, or as a digital download to print yourself.
