About the work
From Hiroshige’s first Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō series (c. 1833–34). Yokkaichi was known for a major market held on the fourth day of every month, but instead of the market Hiroshige chose a windy scene in the marshes along the Mie River just outside the town. No written record explains the choice; the result is a lively display of the power of wind.
Printed on 200 gsm museum-quality matte paper from the museum’s high-resolution open-access image, with a white border so nothing of the original is cropped. Available from A4 up to 70 × 100 cm, or as a digital download to print yourself.
