About the work
Van Gogh painted this autumn landscape in 1889 while a patient at the hospital near Saint-Rémy. Though first restricted to painting in his room, he soon worked outdoors again. Trees twist and lean against a darkening sky, and the intense colours, laid on with charged brushstrokes, carry his emotional response to the scene.
Printed on 200 gsm museum-quality matte paper from the museum’s high-resolution open-access image, with a white border so nothing of the original is cropped. Available from A4 up to 70 × 100 cm, or as a digital download to print yourself.
