About the work
Once railroad service improved in the early 1850s, the White Mountains of New Hampshire became a favourite destination for tourists and artists seeking to commune with nature. John Frederick Kensett painted several views, including this distant one across the Saco River to Mount Chocorua, one of the region’s most distinctive peaks. Painted in 1854.
Printed on 200 gsm museum-quality matte paper from the museum’s high-resolution open-access image, with a white border so nothing of the original is cropped. Available from A4 up to 70 × 100 cm, or as a digital download to print yourself.
