About the work
Renoir painted these seven roses in shades from red to warm white, pale yellow and pink, around 1890. “Painting flowers lets my brain rest,” he said. “When I paint flowers, I put down tones, I boldly try values, without having to worry about losing a canvas.” Monet’s influence shows in the rapid brushstrokes, the thinly brushed background and the thick paint of the blooms.
Printed on 200 gsm museum-quality matte paper from the museum’s high-resolution open-access image, with a white border so nothing of the original is cropped. Available from A4 up to 70 × 100 cm, or as a digital download to print yourself.
