About the work
May Milton was an English dancer who appeared at the Moulin Rouge, and Toulouse-Lautrec made this 1895 poster to advertise her tour of the United States. One of his boldest compositions, it shows his style of flat, simplified, brightly coloured shapes and dramatic silhouettes. Posters had grown popular after 1881, when restrictions on their placement were lifted, and they were soon accepted as a legitimate art form.
Printed on 200 gsm museum-quality matte paper from the museum’s high-resolution open-access image, with a white border so nothing of the original is cropped. Available from A4 up to 70 × 100 cm, or as a digital download to print yourself.
