About the work
In the 1760s, after painting portraits and miniatures with his father, Luis Meléndez began to specialise in still lifes. Active mainly in Madrid, he is regarded as the finest Spanish still-life painter of the 18th century, though he spent much of his life in poverty. Painted c. 1772.
Printed on 200 gsm museum-quality matte paper from the museum’s high-resolution open-access image, with a white border so nothing of the original is cropped. Available from A4 up to 70 × 100 cm, or as a digital download to print yourself.
