About the work
On a simple stone ledge, Juan van der Hamen y León set a wooden box, a dark glass bottle, walnuts, an elaborate Venetian glass and turrones, sweets made of pine nuts, honey, almonds and hazelnuts. The picture may not show a real meal; instead the artist played with contrasts and harmonies of shape, texture and colour. Painted in 1622 by an artist of the Spanish royal court.
Printed on 200 gsm museum-quality matte paper from the museum’s high-resolution open-access image, with a white border so nothing of the original is cropped. Available from A4 up to 70 × 100 cm, or as a digital download to print yourself.
